This week we’ve started a habit of walking every night after dinner as a family. If the weather is good, we’re doing a mile and a half, bad weather, just a half mile. This used to be normal, we used to walk farther, but the weather grew colder, we grew lazier and we fell out of habit. And I fell into weight gain again. Not good.
I’m not proud to admit that I’ve gone kicking and screaming back into this routine. Most nights I whine and grumble all the way out the door. But by the time we get back, I’m always glad we went and I’m lucky that my husband has put his foot down and dedicated his nights to this and encouraging me to keep going. He’s a keeper. And I know it will only get easier, especially as the weather gets better. I look forward to walking in warmer temperatures and eventually longer days so it won’t be dark by the time we get out.
I’ve tried a lot of different work outs, I dabble in different things, but walking has always been my favorite choice – the most natural, the easiest and most relaxing.
So my Aloha Friday question this week is:

I love being in the water. This winter for us (I know, not the rest of the country) has been relatively mild so I’m starting to get the pool ready hoping that early next month I’ll be back doing laps. Aloha! (yep, I’m a kicker & a screamer too.)

Personally, I just stopped by to see your little angel. She’s so pretty, but as long as I’m here hmmm I do water aerobics. It’s the only kind of exercise I can really do for it to amount to anything. Love it.

I sit on my exercise bike and read at the same time! I normally go on a seven mile walk once a week with my parents too. We go along the beach.

That is great that you and your family do this and yes a little whining is to be had 🙂
I love to dance for excercising. The kids play and ride their bikes.
We might just take up your idea.

I ran my first 5K in October…I started running in July to get ready for it. I hated every minute about running until it was over. In November I decided I would much rather walk…so I have been doing that instead. I am the same way though…grumble to myself but also feel good after I get done. 🙂

Walking and hiking are definitely my favorite ways to exercise, I’m glad the weather is finally warming up a tad so I can get outside more!

If we didn’t live on a dangerously busy road, I’d opt for a family walk. But since we can’t do that working out with my Wii and WiiFit are fun! 🙂

I don’t really have a favorite but lately it’s either shoveling snow, piling wood or doing my Susan Powter old VHS workout tape 🙂

I depends on my mood, but most of the time, I go into it kicking and screaming, too.
If I had a good class to go to (like step or kickboxing) I would be all over it (oh, and didn’t have kids to feed, homework to supervise or bedtimes), I’d definitely be better about it. Right now, I do the Shred or elliptical at home.
