My husband knows me well. For Mother’s Day this year he let me loose in the bookstore and basically gave me a free pass to splurge to my heart’s content. Add this splurge to a couple of recent purchases online and I have a very tempting, exciting pile of books to dive into.

Happier at Home by Gretchin Rubin is the follow up to her previous book, The Happiness Project.  In this book Rubin dedicates a school year to making her home a happier place by making it “a place of greater simplicity, comfort, and love” Each month, Rubin tackles a different theme as she experiments with different resolutions to improve her home life.

Godmother by Carolyn Turgeon is a retelling of Cinderella. Imagine if the Fairy Godmother didn’t do what she was supposed to do and Cinderella and the Prince didn’t get together? In this book, Lil aka Fairy Godmother was banished to earth after falling for the Prince and disguising herself as Cinderella in order to go to the ball. This book tells the story of Lil attempting to get redemption for her wrong doings by helping an East Village beauty find true love.

Nobody’s Cuter Than You by Melanie Shankle is one of those books that seems huge on the blogiverse right now. I have basically all of Shankle’s books on my wish list and I couldn’t resist picking up her newest one which focuses on the topic of friendship. It’s dubbed “a laugh-out-loud look at the special bond that exists between friends … From the friendships we develop over a lifetime to the ones that wounded us and the ones that taught us to love better, Melanie Shankle reveals the influence our friends have on who we were, who we are, and who we will become.”

Fairest by Marissa Meyer is the “bridge book” between the novel Cress and the novel Winter which will be coming out in November. But for an “in between” book, it’s actually pretty large – the hardcover is  272 pages! This one goes back to the beginning so to speak, and tells the story of Levana. If you have read the other books, this says everything. If not – go read Cinder immediately so you can join the Obsessed with the Lunar Chronicles Club.

May B by Caroline Starr Rose is  a young adult / middle reader book that is written in verse but manages to not be irritating about it. It’s getting a lot of attention and praise and from the first few pages I’ve read, they seem well deserved. “May is helping out on a neighbor’s Kansas prairie homestead—just until Christmas, says Pa. She wants to contribute, but it’s hard to be separated from her family by 15 long, unfamiliar miles. Then the unthinkable happens: May is abandoned. Trapped in a tiny snow-covered sod house, isolated from family and neighbors, May must prepare for the oncoming winter. While fighting to survive, May’s memories of her struggles with reading at school come back to haunt her. But she’s determined to find her way home again.”

The Heir by Kiera Cass is the newest novel in The Selection series. If you haven’t read the other books yet, maybe don’t read this synopsis because it’s hard not to give spoilers here. Okay, you have been fairly warned right? Anyway, The Heir takes place 20 years after the events in the previous books – America and Maxon’s daughter Princess Eadlyn who is about to embark on her very own Selection, whether she likes it or not. I squeal every time I look at this book so I’m likely to devour it very soon.

I Regret Nothing by Jen Lancaster is her newest memoir. After years of writing books about bettering herself but then not quite actually accomplishing her goals, this book is her aiming to finally check off some bucket list items but also to embrace living with no regrets. “From attempting a juice cleanse to studying Italian, from learning to ride a bike to starting a new business, and from sampling pasta in Rome to training for a 5K, Jen is turning a mid-life crisis into a mid-life opportunity, sharing her sometimes bumpy—but always hilarious—attempts to better her life…again.”

So basically, I’ve got a lot of great reading ahead of me – in addition to all the other books that I have lying around that I haven’t read yet. These are likely the books I’ll be devouring soon though as they are all books that I’m hyped about right now that I normally would have waited awhile to get because priorities and stuff. Thanks to my amazing husband for giving me a literary Treat Yo’ Self day this weekend.
