First Day of School: Through the Years

Everyone on the internet is sharing 1st day of school pictures right now – mine go back in 11 days but I thought it would be fun to take a walk down memory lane while I count down the seconds to the start of the school year (I’m not eager or anything).

Firstly, can we talk about the chubby cheeked sweetness that was Kindergarten Aged MM? And how he’s slowly turning into a tiny little man child? I cannot stand the cuteness. I’m accumulating a pretty adorable collection of 1st Day of School pictures. And I love that we’ve managed to take all of the pictures along the brick wall in the front of our house (okay fine, the kindergarten picture I chose of MM is in front of our front door, roughly ten inches to the left of where all the other pictures were taken) – if we ever move, I hope there are brick walls at our disposal or I might have to stage our photos at someone else’s house and that wouldn’t be weird, creepy or obsessive at all.

BB has only had two cracks at First Day of School pictures but already she is killing it. Call Tyra Banks, because she is ready. I love how her attitude in the kindergarten picture is all, “Relax. I’ve got this mom.”

I don’t have any 1st day of school pictures of myself on my computer, but I do have a nice little assortment of School Pictures from roughly this same age range that I thought would be embarrassing fun to share. Behold:

This is basically everything that was excellent and terrible about 1980’s and 1980’s school pictures. The two pose shot with the terribly fetching floral number. That red and black striped dress (yes, it’s a dress) was like my everything. I planned out that outfit for days, guys. I was working it. Then another ocean of floral dresses. The one time I was tan (ever). And the infamous 4th grade haircut in which I assumed a “pixie” cut would mean that I’d like super chic and feminine but I was oh so wrong.

And if these aren’t enough nostalgia for you, this is what I looked like when it wasn’t school picture day:

Great pictures! Haha. Thanks for the brick wall idea. My son starts Kindergarten in two weeks, so I need to find a nice background for his pictures, so I can be consistent. 🙂

And if you don’t have a brick wall of your own, you can just borrow your neighbors! lol

Noooooo, I’m NOT READY! While friends are counting down with excitement around this time of year, I always get the “back to school blues”. What is wrong with me? (It’s separation anxiety at it’s worst). Anyway, I do love how you put this together…words and pictures… and I also couldn’t help but notice that in your picture you’re holding two babies!!! How prophetic!

It’s not so much the kids being in school that I’m anxious for, just a more reliable schedule. Summer has been all over the place.

And I totally hadn’t noticed the 2 babies thing. Even back then I knew that was all my arms could handle lol
