Aloha Friday: Cake & Ice Cream

It’s time for another Aloha Friday, the day that you take it easy and look forward to the weekend, in Hawaii and blogland anyway. As you should know by now, over at An Island Life, Kailani decided that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting and ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life’s blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today is my husband’s birthday (::waves:: Happy Birthday Sweetie!) so I thought for today’s Aloha Friday we could all share some cyber birthday cake and ice cream and celebrate his big day together! But since this is cyber space and not my kitchen of limited possibilities, I want to make sure everyone gets their favorite kind of cake and ice cream – ever – nothing but the best for all my bloggy friends (and you know, the dh who will be getting chocolate fudge cake with cream cheese frosting AND my homemade chocolate chip cookies – aka jackpot). So what I want to know is…

What’s your favorite kind of cake AND ice cream?

Aloha Friday: What’s Your Workout Secret

Some of you have read about my adventures in workout DVDs and the blatant lack of success I’ve had with them. I’m thinking maybe I should open my workout woes up to you the readers – I bet tons of you are super skinny and work out every day, right? What’s your secret? Is there a workout DVD you’d recommend to me (keeping in mind that I’m out of shape and prone to snarky comments and bailing out early) or a particular type of workout you really enjoy? A class you take? A gym you go to? A plastic surgeon you’d recommend? (just kidding… I think)

What’s your favorite way to work out / stay in shape?

My Husband Rocks: How Well Do You Know Your Husband?

For this week’s My Husband Rocks, I just want to take some time to pay tribute and recall moments of DH history. The host of MHR, Katy Lin @ The Great Adventure posted this little meme all about how well you know your husband a few days ago and I thought it would be perfect for my post today.

This is an old shot of him shortly after we started dating…

Here’s on of us together:

1. Sitting in front of the TV, what’s on the screen? Fringe, Bones or the Sarah Connor Chronicles; or as an old standby, he also likes The Simpsons, Family Guy & Mythbusters

2. You’re out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad? Something simple like Ranch or Caesar

3. What’s one food he doesn’t like? wax beans – there are others but he isn’t a terribly picky eater (unlike me)

4. You go out to a bar. What does he order? Guinness

5. Where did he go to high school? St Johns – local catholic school for the boy genius

6. What size shoe does he wear? I’m pretty sure it’s 12 or 13 depending on the shoe

7. If he was to collect anything, what would it be? computer parts 😛

8. What is his favorite type of sandwich? an Italian sub on wheat bread with everything, lots of hots

9. What would this person eat everyday if he could?
I’m not sure he’d eat anything every day but some things he loves are salt and vinegar potato chips, popcorn, cold cut sandwiches (like the one in question eight) and Trader Joe’s Orange Chicken

10. What is his favorite cereal? He likes those healthy cereals mostly but he’d rather have eggs – he makes himself a mean omelet and several other egg dishes most mornings.

11. What would he never wear? a Halloween costume if he could avoid it (much to my dismay)

12. What is his favorite sports team? He’s really not a huge sports nut but like any good New Englander he likes the Red Sox and the Patriots

13. Who will he vote for? John McCain

14. Who is his best friend? He has several really good friends, as there is nobody on this planet who doesn’t like my husband, but this nut comes to mind as the probable bestie:

Jimmy was the best man in our wedding and the best goofball we know.

He just moved very, very far away and we miss him a lot.

15. What is something you do that he wishes you wouldn’t do? I’m sure there are a lot of things, like not moving the seat back when I get out of the car (he’s so much taller than me he physically can’t get in with the seat set for me), reading late late at night and keeping him up because of it? ::shrugs:: Honey if there’s something I don’t know about, feel free to clue me in. 😛

16. How many states has he lived in? Just the one I think

17.What is his heritage? Wampanoag (Native American) and I think also some French and Irish and probably other things as well but those I think are the big ones.

18. You bake him a cake for his birthday, what kind of cake? chocolate cake with either cream cheese or butter cream frosting. But he’d rather I bake him my chocolate chip cookies. 🙂

19. Did he play sports in high school? Maybe a bit, but nothing major – he’s very outdoorsy and not really into competitive sports – so he wouldn’t likely try out for varsity but he could swim laps around probably anyone except maybe Michael Phelps.

20. What could he spend hours doing? playing on his laptop doing “linux stuff”

21. Does he belong to any men’s organizations? Not that I’m aware. He was in the IEEE, but that’s not exclusively male, just stereotypically.

Okay and now for some more pictures because I went to all the trouble to upload them. 🙂

Aloha Friday: What’s For Dinner, Mom?

So this week, I want to know;

What’s your favorite dish to make for weeknight dinners? Easy preferrably, what dish does the whole family enjoy that you enjoy making? Any Fall favorites in particular?

I think our favorite dish still that I make (you know, not my husband’s home made pizza) is probably my enchilada style mexican pizza – made by layering flour tortillas with mexican seasoned cooked ground beef and shredded cheese, then topping it with more cheese and a can of enchilada sauce (baked in an oven at 350 for 20 minutes). But I’m in the market for something new, so give me your best recipes and I’ll try to incorporate some of them into our menu this month.

Aloha Friday: Thank You, No Thank You…

It’s time for another Aloha Friday, the day that you take it easy and look forward to the weekend, in Hawaii and blogland anyway. As you should know by now, over at An Island Life, Kailani decided that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting and ask a simple question for you to answer. So this week, I’d like to refer back to an entry I wrote yesterday about thank you notes. To recap for those of you who aren’t regulars, I recieved a thank you note for a wedding I went to a few weeks ago which not only got my name wrong (Jess, as opposed to my actual name, Jen) but also thanked me for a gift I did not give her.

So my question this week is:

Do you send you thank you notes? What occasions do you send them? Are there specific occasions you choose not to send them? Thoughts? Speculations?

In regards to the thank you note I recieved, do you think it would have been better she not send thank you notes at all, given she didn’t take the time to actually look at what gifts she got or who sent them? Perhaps, in her situation, you would have waited until you could look through each gift individually, or not sent a note at all? Or do you think it was a must to send a card, and quickly? Is timeliness more important than accuracy? No judging here at all, just curious what you all think of thank you notes in general. 🙂

Aloha Friday: Would You Care to Dance?

So I’ve been thinking about this for awhile, trying to decide the best way to post these thoughts without just sounding ridiculous. Then Aloha Friday rolled around, the day that you take it easy and look forward to the weekend, in Hawaii and blogland anyway. As you should know by now, over at An Island Life, Kailani decided that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting and ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

Anyway point is, for this week I was unsure what to ask of you. I thought about talking about Halloween but I’d really like to wait awhile (at least until October) before talking about that too much. So I decided to pull out this “Long Shot” of a blog post idea and form it into an Aloha Friday. My question this week is:

Do you watch Ellen? You know how on her talk show she has little “dance segments” thrown in for  fun, complete with hopping over that round table she has?

If I decided to do that on my blog, you know break off in the middle of a topic and put on some awesome new song and start busting a move, hopping over our living room table (which I’ve practiced) – would you dance with me? Would you pretend you danced with me but not actually dance yourself? Would you accuse me of doing the same?

Would you worry what the neighbors would think? Would you believe me if I told you it could be a great new exercise to throw into your daily habit and maybe your kids would dance with you and it would be this great new thing and you’d wonder why you’d never done it before? Would you wait impatiently for it everyday, putting on special “dancing pants” just for me?

Or are you going to stop reading my blog now? 😛
