Daybook: August 17, 2009

Today…

Outside my window: It’s kind of gray and drizzly. Dan was going to bike to work this morning for a staff meeting at one building, then come home for lunch and drive to the other building for the rest of the day. But it was raining this morning so now he’s planning to do that in reverse. Despite the gray and the rain, it’s still pretty warm in here and I opted to close the sliding door and turn on the AC.

I am hearing: Martha Speaks on PBS. TD is talking about some genius plan of his that probably isn’t very genius. This is one of MM’s current favorite shows and I have to admit, I like it a lot, too – but then I like any show that is all jazzed up about spelling or vocabulary – no small wonder that I love PBS, huh?

I am thinking: about the different classes offered at the Y and which, if any, I’d like to sign MM up for – we’re planning to join next month when their fall season starts. We took a tour of the building yesterday and liked it, but found out they are just ending their summer session and are planning to do renovations for the next 2 to 3 weeks until their fall season begins, which means the pool, gyms and weight room will all be closed for most of the next three weeks. I think it’s cool they are updating their equipment, etc. but it doesn’t make sense to join now when we won’t be able to use anything there for over half the month, so we’ll go back and sign up when things are up and running again.

I am hoping: that my dentist appointment on Wednesday isn’t too traumatic or expensive… and that MM’s first appointment on Thursday goes well, too – I really don’t want him to inherit my fear of dentists but I’m totally dreading the appointment as silently as possible…

I am reading: 10-10-10: A Life Transforming Idea by Suzy Welch – I’m about halfway through it now and enjoying it. I definitely like the concept of thinking about things in the short term, later down the road, and the long term. I don’t think I’ll become a 10-10-10 zealot or anything – I’m not really into extremism in any form, but I will probably use the idea for larger decisions for sure.

I am creating: a little organization in our household – or at least I’m thinking about trying. I think MM should have more structure in his day and there are some things I’d like to be doing more efficiently, too. I’m also in the early beginning stages of thinking about a trip home to visit family and friends this winter.

I am wearing: pajamas and my new Maya Wrap that my parents got me – so gorgeous!

In the kitchen: our menu is kind of all over the place this week, but it should look something like this…

  • Monday: Meatloaf with homemade potato chips and frozen vegetables
  • Tuesday: Fettucini Alfredo with grilled chicken and frozen vegetables
  • Wednesday: Hamburgers, Hot Dogs & Macaroni & Cheese OR BBQ chicken with rice and vegetables
  • Thursday: Spaghetti with homemade meat sauce
  • Friday: Hamburgers, Hot Dogs & Macaroni & Cheese OR BBQ chicken with rice and vegetables OR something else…

Around the house: I’m thinking it’s about time to pick up some more cloth diapers since it looks like we are sticking with it – more on this later if I can find time to write again…

Plans for the week: laundry, dentist, feeding, diapers, sleeping… Dan’s family is coming to visit this weekend – that part is much more exciting than the rest of the week until they get here.

A few of my favorite things: my new Maya wrap – we’re still getting used to tightening it, positioning, etc. but it’s much easier to grab and put on than the Moby Wrap and it’s sooooooo beautiful. 🙂 Also – still in love with our Graco travel system – things like cup holders that are big enough to hold our water bottles – genius. Also exciting – I won a copy of Julie and Julia at 3 Boys & a Dog – really looking forward to reading that!

A picture thought:

I know the picture quality is terrible, but check out my new short hair cut! I totally made my husband cut my hair this weekend - he was a nervous wreck but I'm happy with how it came out and happier that it was free.

@ Jean : I keep meaning to take a picture of the wrap, but I’d rather have a good picture taken by the hubby – lately all the pictures of me are taken by myself. 😛

@ Sues2u2 : He has very steady hands and I am very brave when it comes to hair cuts, so it was a win win situation – also, I reasoned that if he messed it up, I could still go to a salon to get it fixed.

Love the new do! That’s pretty neat that you’d even trust Dan to cut your hair. Hubby would take the electric razor to mine!
