1 day down, 20 to go…

I’ve mentioned this challenge in a sort of off-handed whisper several times last month, but yesterday the challenge actually started! Dustin Maher, author of Fit Moms for Life and a personal trainer from Wisconsin started this program to challenge the mommy blogger community to try out his boot camp exercises and start losing the weight! Leanne Ely, New York Times best selling author from SavingDinner.com teamed up with him, creating some menu options to tailor your diet during the 21 Day Mommy Blogger Weight Loss Challenge.

So how did my first day out of 21 go?

Well, to begin with, I forgot the challenge started until around 3pm yesterday. Um, crap? It was a busy day and I was pretty much on the run from 8am-3pm gettin’ stuff done. Then at 3pm I thought, “Didn’t my challenge start today?” Whoops.

So I logged in, opened up all the documents for the challenge: his exercise video, a PDF of the meal plan, a spreadsheet to keep track of diet & exercise each day and a word document listing all the info.

I took my measurements as he suggested – I’m not quite brave enough to share them with you, but trust me, I took them. Dan took his, too, and we had a good laugh comparing each of our outcomes with each other. Who has the bigger butt? Who has the biggest thighs? Who has bigger hips, abs, arms or calves? I’ll never tell.

After scrolling through Leanne’s diet suggestions I first noted that my meals had not come close to resembling hers – they certainly looked healthy and probably doable but I could tell right away I probably wouldn’t follow it. My meals aren’t bad to begin with, so I’m going to plan to keep track of what I am eating, drinking, etc. and stick to his exercise regim and go from there…. for now. Baby steps?

As for the exercise, hoo boy! I only did a little over half his workout before calling mercy. It was tough! But I’m going to do it again today (assuming my legs stop wobbling before then) and I’ll try  to push myself a little farther until I can keep up with the pack. I’ll get there! But even with my 30 minute workout, I could definitely feel the burn (I can still feel it this morning) and I DEFINITELY worked up a sweat. So I’m content. My personal goal for this challenge, by the way, is to get in the habit of working out daily.

This morning I had home made quiche for breakfast and a cup of tea. My goal is to drink LOTS of water, keep those snacks healthy and exercise today like my life depends on it! And then do it again tomorrow. And the next day, and the….

In conclusion, if I had to grade Day 1 of the challenge, I’d probably give myself a C+ with signs of improvement by the end of the night.

  1. I’m sure you’re doing better than a C+!

I can’t even have Alex measure himself. He’s naturally slim. I’d cry.

Quiche sounds yummy, and full of protein. Hope you got int your water and exercise today.

Read page 106 in the book about your soreness….and good luck!
