So. I broke my ankle last week. Barely. It’s the world’s tiniest most insignificant fracture. Like when the doctor showed us the X-ray I said to my husband, “that’s not a broken bone, that’s like a sliver of bone that’s moved away. It’s decorative, really.”

My husband laughed but later he explained that it is broken because that little bone chip was attached to a ligament that had work to do making sure I have ankle skills. Apparently I’m not qualified to read x-rays as a stay at home mom and one time blogger.

So they fitted me for a giant boot that immediately got to work fat shaming me. The nurse was actually so polite about it but was making hmmm faces while looking at two boots. One that fit my foot and one that fit my glorious, work of art calves. This was apparently a conundrum that only the folks at physical therapy could solve. They have a wider selection of boots and boot doohickeys and were able to custom fit the boot of my nightmares that I have to wear for the next 1-8 weeks. All the time. I also got lessons in walking with crutches because they are also my new constant companion.

All because my heel caught on the edge of my front stoop last week and sent me flying into my garden bed like an episode of Funniest Home Videos except nobody I’ve shown the doorbell footage to laughs. They all watch me put my key in the door, discussing fresh produce with my seventeen year old (that’s right long time readers, my youngest daughter is seventeen now. Feel old?), then turn and take three steps before going airborne and then the viewers all go “OH MY GOD!” as they recoil in horror and look up at me with tears in their eyes. I thought it was funny.

So tomorrow is my twentieth wedding anniversary which is ridiculous because we’re barely adults and apparently we’re spending the week going to doctors appointments and convalescing at home. Cheers? As I cancel plans and Google handicap accessible wine bars and mobility scooters, I thought I could do something useful with my time couch surfing for the next month like, “hey? What if we brought blogs back?”

Because honestly the replacement is a little lackluster for me. Instagram is a fun way to kill time and my friends are all about tik toks and threads and reels but I miss when things were wordier. When pictures sat still. When mothers spent nap time quietly flexing creative muscles at one another as we pondered the world together. Anyone else?

I’m sorry about your ankle, but I’m a fan of wordy content too. Welcome back! I missed your humor.
